Abstract / Description

The pandemic exposed already existing inequities in our healthcare system when it comes to race, sex, and socioeconomic status as Black, Hispanic, AIAN, and NHOPI people experienced higher rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths than White people. They were at about one and a half times greater risk of COVID-19 infection, and about twice as likely to die from the virus, than their White counterparts. When it comes to organization's attempting to address these issues, ultimately, the top barrier to implementing a strategy is a lack understanding of what health equity entails. (author abstract)
